Dumb Ways to Die — Die in 10 unique ways
The rarest certification at launch — and the most on-brand.
Requirement
Die in 10 unique ways. Hidden on Steam until unlocked, and — by launch-window tracking — the least unlocked Certification in the whole set. The game tracks different death causes against your profile.
Death causes documented by name
Complete-ten list is not officially published. What public sources do name, sourced where possible:
| Death cause | Source |
|---|---|
| Nail-gun blasts (friendly or otherwise) | Pin Cushion requirement text + review coverage |
| Electric shocks / lightning | Dare Drop task: get struck by lightning in Crane Climb |
| Sunburn in Master Builder Hotel | Official @Official_DWTD post |
| Falls from height | Dare Drop task: clip your best fall to your death; Cannonbean requirement |
| Piranha tank | Launch review (the hotel's office area) |
| Dynamite / explosive barrel blast | Launch review (the office dynamite gag) |
That is a documented fraction. The remaining causes — many hazards by design, each Job has unique hazards — are part of why the game's store line is literally “prove there are truly so many dumb ways to die.” Treating full enumeration as unknown until the studio or a reliable stats source prints a complete list.
How to work through it
- Track causes by playing against your profile; each new kill-cause adds to the count.
- Master Builder variants add causes enough (see Dead and Breakfast — the sun burn count as one).
- Not every death type is on every map — spreading the hunt across all three Jobs makes sense.
FAQ
Common questions about this topic.
How do I unlock Dumb Ways to Die in Dumb Ways to Build?
Die 10 different ways — by cause, not by count. The full cause list is not officially published; known causes include falls, lightning, sunburn, nail-gun blasts, piranhas and explosives.
Why is it the rarest?
Launch-window tracked data shows it as the least unlocked of the 25 — most players have not lined up ten distinct causes.
Does dying repeatedly the same way count?
No — the requirement says unique ways; repeat deaths of an already-counted cause do not advance it.
