Revives: balloons and Portaloos
Death is cheap in Dumbville, but reviving a Bean has two shapes — one free, one token-limited.
The free revive: the balloon
When a Bean dies it is attached to a balloon. Teammates can grab the balloon and float the body back to safety — inflate and steering suffices as reported — where the Bean comes back without consuming anything. This is why crews in co-op rarely care about an accidental death: the retrieval is usually the fun.
The token revive: the Portaloo
If teammates cannot reach the fallen Bean (or prefer one action), they can revive at a nearby Portaloo — the report system says a use-phase consumes a revival token and tokens are limited per Job. What your crew burns tokens on converts directly into your chances at Restroom Rescue, which needs one Portaloo use running three revives.
Rules of thumb
- Prefer balloon retrieves — they are free and faster than a Portaloo walk.
- Keep at least one token alive for the final stretch of a zero-death run (see the zero-death runs style tasks).
- Deaths are tracked as causes against the Dumb Ways to Die cert so spread your deaths too.
Unverified numbers
- Exact token count per Job — not officially published; reports mention a limited pool without quantities.
- Balloon carry distance and steering limits — no numbers printed anywhere.
FAQ
Common questions about this topic.
How do you revive a Bean in Dumb Ways to Build?
Two ways: catch the corpse balloon and carry the Bean back (free), or use a nearby Portaloo (costs one revival token; tokens are limited).
Do Portaloo revives use tokens every time?
Yes per launch-window reports — every use-phase consumes from a limited pool.
Can you revive yourself?
Not documented; the balloon system seems to route retrieval through teammates.
Is there a revive limit?
The token pool is limited per Job, but balloon revives do not draw from it.
